Lappiz is a collaborative web tool that allows students, especially those in higher education, to share academic content between them. Its purpose is purely educational, providing students universal access to all kinds of documents that might be interesting in a particular area of study. By connecting information, knowledge and educational institutions, Lappiz seeks to stimulate the emerging need to expand the horizons of students, who now want more dynamic ways to enrich their knowledge and to collaborate with peers.
The structural organization of Lappiz facilitates an interdisciplinary approach to complex issues through carefully developed graphics and text, with the academic environment in mind. It allows students to find information on many existing educational institutions, building and actually enjoy a real teamwork. These new paradigms of knowledge also enable the development of new communities or ad hoc groups, to better respond to issues and challenges.

One of Lappiz’s collaborative features consists in discussions, where any student can participate and share their opinion. Several topics can be discussed, irrespective of the country, the university, the course or the subject in question. Be it a more political issue, a workshop being organized, or the assessment method proposed for a subject, the multiplicity of opinions, the healthy discussion and, if possible, the generation of more knowledge by virtue of the word, are all welcomed.

Questions in Lappiz are a new way to find and share information. They may be posted on any topic and be answered by any student, thereby encouraging sharing of different points of view, experiences and suggestions. The author of a question may provide additional information (clarifications) and only him may determine when to close a question, and which answer is the best. Thus, it is known that the author found the ideal answer for his question, and everyone else may even learn by reading the other available answers.
Reputation built on the basis of feedback from the community
As always, in any system where you want to enhance the credibility, professionalism and performance of a participant, you must resort to measures of assessment. In Lappiz, students are not free from them, but this time performed by their peers. Thus, each answer to a question, each new message in a discussion or document sent have tools for content classification: interesting, informative, useful, important, agree and disagree. As their involvement in Lappiz increases, its reputation will be built based on the classification made by the community. Thus, students will know better who can they trust, who is more professional communicating and who is more credible, just like in the real world.
Documents’ archive and digital repository of knowledge
Thousands of students use online tools to share information among them. Whether they are notices, presentations, practical works or reports, the need to share knowledge exists and requires an enormous effort by those who seek consistency in the information systems they use. Lappiz implements a simple system for sending documents that allows the tagging of the file so that in future it can be easily found - by the student who sent it, or by those looking for information relating to the categories covered.
The construction of your academic social network
The social component of Lappiz is a fun and convenient way for students to establish links between new friends and new colleagues. From the social network built in Lappiz, they can easily communicate among themselves, exchanging new experiences and to discuss possible work in partnership. This tool aims to meet the social trend that now dominates the information technologies used by students, offering them convenient means to explore new avenues in the center of the academic spirit.
Profile management and list of recent activities
Sometimes the information can be so wide that students get easily lost, but it all depends on how it is organized. In the dashboard of each student there is a panel that lists all the recent activity in Lappiz and in which way it is related to that student: content that he has particular interest in following, news from his friends and new questions, topics or resources posted that have been added to the course that student goes to - and much more. He can also define which subjects, course and university does he attend to. This way, the next time he logs into Lappiz, he will be immediately forwarded to his course - a student's life is complicated, so Lappiz simplifies their lives.
Notes of operation and availability
The Lappiz is on a start-up phase, therefore currently privileging partners in Portugal. However, all features are available and in operation for several countries. Lappiz is an independent tool and decoupled from any educational institution. All content in Lappiz is governed by its Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Rules of the Community and Copyright.
